Ayurveda medicine is the oldest means of healing system. It was developed in India more than 3000 years ago. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend upon the balance and wellness of mind, body, and spirit.
Ayurveda is all about promoting good health and not fighting diseases. But each treatment may be geared to protect you from specific health issues.
It is considered as a form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States of America.
Those who practice Ayurveda believe every person is made of five basic elements of the universe – fire, water, air, space, and earth.
These combines together in the human body to form three life forces or energies are collectively known as doshas. Each dosha has specific characteristics and controls different aspects of your body. It is believed that the chances of getting sick and having health issues you develop are linked to the balance of doshas.
Three Doshas :
Ayurvda For Thyroid Treatment
According to ayurveda pitta dosha is responsible for controlling thyroid function. Pitta is responsible for all the metabolic actions carried out by the thyroid hormones. Amount of pitta dosha determines the production of Thyroid Stimulating Hormones (TSH).
Did you know?
Thyroid disease and other autoimmune diseases have been on the rise recently. Allopathic treatment is currently limited to drugs and surgery that have serious long term side effects.
What is Thyroid?
Thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland. It is situated low in front of the neck along the front of the windpipe. The thyroid has two lobes on each side of the throat connected by a bridge called isthmus in the middle. A normal-sized thyroid cannot be felt by hand.
Thyroid gland is a brownish-red gland that is rich in blood vessels. Nerves that are important for voice production and clarity of voice pass through the thyroid.
The thyroid secretes a set of hormones called thyroid hormones. One of the main hormones produced by the thyroid gland is thyroxine, also known as T4. Thyroid acts throughout the body, influencing metabolism, growth and development, and body temperature. Thyroid hormones have immense effects on a child’s brain development.
